Here are some tweaks for those who are using Yahoo Messenger (7.x-8.x)

1. Annoyed by the ads?
Start -> Run -> regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\YUrl
Add the following string key: `Messenger Ad` [wihtout the quotes!] with the following value: “*”.
only add the *

2. If I have 2x accounts?
Start -> Run -> regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\Test
Create a DWORD key with name of `Plural` with a value bigger than 0.

Note: you have to completely close your Y! Messenger [if you just log out and see a Y! in the traybar it don't gona work, you have to "kill" it completely than run again -> Y! reads the registry only at startup].

Yahoo to offer incentives for using search engine

Yahoo confirmed on Wednesday that it’s polling some Yahoo Mail users about what they would want in exchange for making Yahoo their primary search engine. The survey was sent to a random sampling representing about 5 percent of its Yahoo Mail users, a Yahoo representative said.

“Yahoo is considering launching a program to reward people who make Yahoo their primary search engine,” the survey says. “Yahoo Mail users will be given early access to this program. You will receive a monthly reward if you make Yahoo your primary search engine. This means that most of the searching you do each month must be on Yahoo Search.”

Yahoo! Mail
Looks like nothing but attracting a few Gmail users who are just leaving from Yahoo!

Ever dreamed of the perfect Yahoo! Mail address? One that mirrors your personality? Your passion? Your hair color? Or maybe just the name your mother gave you at birth?

Well, you’re in luck. We’ve just opened up new “dot” addresses to all Mail users. Now get an extra email address like stunt.racer@yahoo.com or poetry.stud@yahoo.com or whatever.youwant@yahoo.com. It’s absolutely free. Use it just as you would your primary address (which of course you can still use). To make things handy, even use one Inbox to send and receive messages to and from both addresses. But hurry, the good names are going fast!

Grab your .address@yahoo.com here.

Even Yahoo using WordPress to blog

Wordpress!

Yahoo seems to be using wordpress for its new yahoo mail updates blog. Matt writes about it yesterday. The whole wordpress community is gald about it at the same time feeling bad about something else.

The blog looks simple and good using a custom theme. The have enough footer spacing for giving a link back to wordpress. The link is not important in this case but the credit for the great blogging tool is important. Afterall wordpress is FREE and whats the problem to give it the credit? Dont really understand what they have in mind. But the footer looks like something has been defenitely cleanedup there.

WordPress is such an excellent blogging tool that it can be used by absolute beginners and expert bloggers and programmers. And I feel such a tool deservers credits from gaints like yahoo, google, microsoft, apple and others. But its going the other way? Google already has its own blogging tool(The Blogger) so they will probably never use wordpress and when big guns like yahoo use it, they dont give the credit? dose’nt that sound bad? whats the matter with Yahoo! ?

Google's Hurricane Katrina Search

Google has launched two new search features designed specifically for finding information about Hurricane Katrina.

According to Google, you can search on any keyword using Katrina Search and get back results only from Hurricane Katrina-related web pages.

Katrina People Search accesses several public databases to help you find info on friends or family members who may have been affected by the storm.

Google get its information from several publicly available databases (including that of the Red Cross) to build one comprehensive list of people affected by Hurricane Katrina in order to make it easier for evacuees, families and friends to find their loved ones.

Other sites with similar services are Lycos and Yahoo.
The Google Katrina Search is available here
