Be careful while writing in your blog

Posted in Blogging, Google, Internet, Search Engine News

Well, that is what one of my favorite SEO guy Aaron Wall of SEOBook.com advises. Watchout, even people commenting at your blog can get you sued. May be with a couple of thousand dollars? or a couple of ten thousands?

Read these to know more about what I am talking about:
http://www.seobook.com/archives/001131.shtml
http://www.seobook.com/archives/001130.shtml
http://www.seobook.com/archives/001122.shtml

Read the content in this site which publishes Traffic Power’s unsatisfied clients emails and lots of other things.
http://www.trafficpowersucks.com/

Search on any major search engine for the words traffic power and you only find sites that write about traffic power getting banned and you will no where find traffic power’s website because they are banned from all search engines. So getting banned is also as hard as getting the top rank I think.
Results for Traffic Power from major search engines: (click to see)
Google, Yahoo & MSN.

They have some reviews even from Amazon: Reviews at Amazon

This is Traffic Power’s Website:
http://www.traffic-power.com/
If you read this completely, you can clearly notice that they are talking about some clients but have removed their names.
http://www.traffic-power.com/clients.html

There is one more very important thing you would like to know.
Traffic Power was making some millions a way back.
It is an SEO Company promissing traffic for the amount you paid. According to Google, it was using Un-ethical SEO practices and Google finally banned all its customers sites and their corporate site itself on one fine day. Not really sure if Google is going to relist these sites in future. But, what the heck is wrong in writing about a company which takes thousands of dollars from people and get their sites totally removed from search engines. And these Laws help this company to sue people who talk about the truth? So, I can be sued for writing this? Well, this is my opinion that I am sharing with the world. The right to Speak is one among my rights by Birth :)

I feel sorry for Aaron Wall. But I guess he should’nt have written about a company who is like a potential competitor in his business. Well, Aaron, you atleast let others to know to be careful while writing in their own blogs.

Now it is all not about Traffic Power or about Aaron Wall, it is about ones Right to Speech.

Yahoo earns via Google just like everybody?

Posted in Adsense, Google, Yahoo

Being a search gaint, its intresting to see that Yahoo also earns via Google adsense.
Flickr, which was acquired by yahoo in march this year, is now under Yahoo’s management and I wonder if Yahoo knows that flicks still gets some revenue from google adsense.

Things like this will let us know the power of adsense.
Even Google’s rivals use it to make some money?

Look at these images which will give you the complete picture of what I am talking about.

Google ads on a yahoo company website?< - ->Google ads on a yahoo company? random display?

The first pic shows you flickr displaying google adsense and the second one shows you the same page with yahoo ads. Flickr actually displays both google ads and yahoo ads in random, so everytime you browse flickr you may not see google ads all the time. But, if you use flickr regularly, you might be seeing this.

Now do you agree with me if I say that even the big guns make money via google? still thinking about it?
I would like to hear your comment on this. Let me know.

How is eCPM Calculated for Google Adwords and Adsense

Posted in Adsense, Adwords, Google

This is in continuation with my previous post about eCPM. It is calculated by total earnings divided by the number of page impressions and then multiplied by 1000.

If your earnings is $50 and you have 11270 impressions.
$50/11270 = 0.00443655……
again 0.00443655……x1000 = 4.43

You can try the eCPM Calculator.

What is eCPM in Google Adwords and Adsense

Posted in Adsense, Adwords, Google, Google, SEO

Today I was asked about what eCPM really means by my friend.
Just thought to post it for others :)

eCPM is nothing but Effective CPM which is the effective cost per 1000 impressions generated by a cost-per-click ad. eCPM is determined by multiplying a number of factors, including the ad’s cost per click (CPC) and its clickthrough rate (CTR). The resulting eCPM can be used to rank CPC ad campaigns against CPM campaigns.

I hope you understood what eCPM means.

If you have probably come here by mitake searching for eCPM and its not about advertising, here are eCPM definitions from Dictionary:
Acronym Definition
ECPM European Christian Political Movement
ECPM External Combustion Power Module
eCPM Effective CPM (Cost Per Thousand impressions; advertising)

Google Desktop Search beta 2 cOOl and seXy

I thought it was the same old story of desktop search beta 1.
I felt horrible with the first version. It was taking more resource than any other application. If just an indexing application takes so much CPU resource, what about the other applications that we never close for days together? And it was taking some 500MB of space. Just to index? sounds like my system search is also like a google data center. Irritated, I un-installed and deleted all the index.

Now google is back with another new beta version.
I’m adicted to it more than any other application on my desktop.
I have been playing with the new Google Desktop for the past 2 days now and I really like it. It gives me access to something that I use often and keeps them right were I can keep an eye on them.
I have a collection of desktop tools that can make things easy. You know what I mean? easy in every sense.
google desktop scrrenshot
It has all I want. A simple gmail notifier/indexer, news, search includes desktop(my computer) search, photos to rotate, to keep memories refreshing(you can select the photos folder).

Cool plugins like scratch pad(where you can write anything and it will be saved without your confirmation); Todo(you can save your to do tasks) and Adsense status(this is wonderful addon which displays adsense earnings).

Sticking to the left or right end of the screen, it gives you a wonderful experience.

Google towards VOIP DOMINATION?

Posted in Google, Search Engine News

Google has sent an instant message to its rivals with the launch of its Talk service.

At first glance, a combined instant messaging/net phone system is a strange service to launch mainly because Google’s rivals are so far ahead in terms of users and experience.

According to figures gathered by ComScore Media Metrix, America Online has more than 40 million users on its AIM and ICQ instant messaging networks. Yahoo has 20 million users and MSN Messenger has 14 million. Some of these services have been operating for more than a decade.

On net telephony, too, Google has a mountain to climb. The biggest net telephone (or voice over IP) service is run by Skype which currently claims to have 51 million users.

One of the ways that Yahoo Broadband in Japan won customers was by bundling net telephony with the net access service.

Google may have a leading share of the search market but it is a minnow when it comes to these two technologies.

What it hopes will help attract users to its instant messaging system is its offer of compatibility with the relatively closed networks of its rivals.

We are going to try to be the first in the world to connect everyone to everyone.
-Georges Harik, Google

AOL, MSN and Yahoo try to ensure that their users talk to no others simply because they fear that opening up their networks will dilute their hold and reduce the amount of cash they can generate from all these people.

So does google right? Time and popularity should buy things for google now.

What it hopes will help attract users to its instant messaging system is its offer of compatibility with the relatively closed networks of its rivals.

AOL, MSN and Yahoo try to ensure that their users talk to no others simply because they fear that opening up their networks will dilute their hold and reduce the amount of cash they can generate from all these people.

Although users can connect to other networks via more open clients, they typically lose some of the features, such as webcams and audio, that work on pure IM networks.

By contrast, Google Talk is based on an open technology called Jabber which was created to help different networks talk to each other.

Georges Harik, director of new products at Google, hinted that this was its aim when the Talk service was unveiled.

“We are going to try to be the first in the world to connect everyone to everyone,” he said.

However, Google Talk does not yet use these features of Jabber and, for the moment, is as closed as any other network. Similarly, its net telephone service currently works only for GMail account holders.

On net telephony services, it also has a long way to go to catch up with rivals not least because managing a system that can provide good quality phone calls is very different to letting people scour a database with search queries.

But there is method to Google’s seeming madness. It is clear that Google is trying to build a cluster of programs that effectively turns the net into an operating system – just like Windows does for personal computers.

Google wants to turn its collection of services and add-on programs such as the Desktop Search sidebar into a helper that users can turn to no matter what they want to do.

Google’s Desktop Search has mutated from simple search software into a holder for lots of small applications that users can access as long as they have access to a web browser.

Both the instant messaging and net telephony services work via the floating Sidebar of Google Desktop Search.

These developments also make sense of all the rumours floating around about the creation of a Google browser.

As web watcher Jason Kottke points out, it is clear that this ability to get at your stuff and use it where ever you are is becoming increasingly important to more people. It is portability rather than being tied to a particular computer that is important.

As he also points out, it is clear that Google rivals such as Microsoft, Yahoo and Apple are pushing toward the same goal.

The reason they want to get people using their system rather than a rival’s is simply because that control means they can get more advertising cash from them.

Yahoo recently bought Konfabulator which specialises in making software that can be used in lots of different web browsers.

Also, both Google and Yahoo are keen to open up the coding interfaces to their core systems and services so that the others can create useful ways to use them.

Net telephony service Skype has announced its intention to open up its network in a similar way, too.

The time for talk is over, now we have to watch the action.

Its been a while now that we in the Search Engine Industry are hearing about Google Talk.

The release went a day early than rumoured.

Google has been dominating the search engines for a long while now. And now that they are into instant messaging to compete with Yahoo! IM, MSN Messenger and may be VOIP software Spyke too? We just have to wait and see the critics and reviews. who knows if they are targeting just the IMs or VOIP tools too? May be thats their ultimate idea!

Now that Google is into every thing that other search engines / portals offer.

I’m just wondering whats next!
