WordPress 2.0 finally appears!

Posted in Blogging, WordPress

Been waiting for it as ajay prepares his theme for the new version 2.0. The new version which was in talk since long time now is released today and i am sure most my plugins wont be working for the latest version. so, will have to wait untill I can be sure.

But the other blogs which I though of starting with wordpress 2.0 will be started soon. May be in first week of 2006. I am sure the experience with wordpress 2.0 will be great as the ajaxian smoke is all around it now.

As mark says, the there is a total design change for the wordpress.org site, which I think I dont like it much. Mainly the support forums, they were better with the previous theme. May be there are still changes going on? I am sure the site is not fully done at this point of time because as i can see a 404 with the screenshots page.

You can Download the Latest Version here: WordPress 2.0

RICOlmer, task reminder
I’ve been searching for one good desktop application with address book, notes saver, task reminder, bookmark manager and some more cool features. In the process I found this free software RICOlmer, which is really good. But the bad thing is that it is only a task reminder. But its worth a try.

If someone did miss this funny interview by Philipp Lenssen foretelling Google’s future for the year 2038, i guess you should spare some time to read it. I think even Larry had a good time reading it.

Beware of IM Santa – Its not Santa Claus!

Posted in Internet

0

Users of instant messaging systems MSN, AIM, ICQ, and Yahoo could get smacked with a worm that entices people to click on a link to Santa Claus.

This gift is one you’ll wish you’d never opened. The IM.GiftCom.All worm arriving by those IM systems or over Windows Messenger appears to be a URL linked to a picture of Santa Claus.
IMLogic, which discovered the worm, posted that clicking the URL launches an executable file.

Once that file gets started, it embeds itself into the PC as a rootkit, and scans the registry, file system, and Internet cache. IMLogic also said the process hides from antivirus and other system
tools that might detect it. The worm also logs keystrokes and may also try to spread itself to other users over IM to usernames it grabs from those services on the infected PC.

While its method of distribution doesn’t make it a big threat, the amount of damage it can do to a system caused IMLogic to rate it as a Medium threat, a company executive told CNet News.

Users and administrators should ensure they are running the most current versions of their antivirus engines and that signature files have been updated to help repel the threat. Also, people will want
to be careful about clicking on links in messages that arrive unexpectedly, even if they appear to be from a legitimate messaging buddy.

Dont get fooled and hacked by it.

Ice Cold Weekend Long Ride; Hyderabad – Vijayawada

Posted in Dairy

5

Firstly, before I talk about this, this is a very dangerous ride and is NOT a recommended one.
This is my second long night ride between Hyderabad(the city I stay) and Vijayawada(my home city).
Last time it was in August(not cold but little rainy).
This time it was ICE COLD, you have to do it to know what I mean by ice cold.
May be 10oC to 20oC and possibly the lowest in the whole year.
Your hands will surely get freezed to the kick-ass cool air.
But my bike did’nt let me take more than 1 pit stop but its better to take one every 100kms or 75kms.
By the way, my bike model is Bajaj Pulsar 180cc DTS-i.
It is perfect for a long ride like this. (you can see it here)

Some figures of this ice cold trip:

Hyderabad to Vijayawada : 285 Kms
Time taken: 5 hours (with one pit stop)
With an average speed of 70kms/hour
Total figure in this weekend trip: 662 Kms

About Vehicles On the NH9(see road map):
Most dangerous Idiots: Toyota Qualis & Mahindra Scorpio
(very dangerous, they can get killed and will get you killed too)
The brainless ones: Tata Indicabs(the taxi version cars of tata indica)
– they think they are too smart and move like rats in a locked room.
Very Friendly: Firstly Lorrys, second are R.T.C Busses & Third are Private Hitech Busses
The Untouchables: RTC Garuda Busses., The Volvo busses.
– at a speed of 100Kms/hour to 120kms/hour or more
King of the Road: may be yourself, if you are driving a Pulsar 180.
- only if your bike is in a perfect condition.

So, anyone planning for a long and risky trip like this on the National Highways ? here is the to-do list!
- make sure you carry water and some food and an mp3 player like my Zen Micro,
- DEFINETLY NO without a perfect full covering helmet, perfect jacket to protect you from the years strongest fog and a perfect pair of gloves.
- make sure you are aware of the Toyota Qualises & Mahindra Scorpios crossing you with 100kms/hour and more speeds,
- make sure you take a pit stop for every 100km or less or else there is a possibility that your bike’s engine will get freezed or your ass will get freezed to the bike’s seat.
(the New Reliance Fuel Bunks are perfect for pit stops, you get purified water and well cleaned toilets and some resting place too)
- make sure you check your bike’s headlight and the flicker is working.
(the bike’s flicker is the most useful thing in the night on National Highways)
- more importantly check your break lights and tyres conditions.
(do not take a ride like this on long used tyres, possibly you can ruin the whole experience for a long ride.)
- also, have the two mirrors, atleast 10 litres of fuel and very very very less luggage.
- never pickup anyone asking for a lift on the highways
- Keep your eyes open for the heavy vehicles which take pit stops without leaving any signal for the passing-by vechicles.
– carry a mobile and make sure your provider is covering the whole highway range.
(atleast you can call the highway patrol for help if you are in touble)

I repeat that this is a very dangerous ride and you will put your life to risk to satisfy your passion.
And my feeling about the whole ride; it was fantastic!
